Crisis Models by philbourassa Crisis Models by philbourassa
Another Line up, this time a size comparison featuring Lex and the other characters from the opening teaser. I have gotten a few questions about the origins of Jedd Jarkus, the evil version of the Martian Manhunter. This is another case where I stayed really faithful to Bruce's original concept for the character. He had done a rough sketch for this guy years ago, when the script was originally being written as part of JL animated continuity, I just took his concept, and adapted it into my style for the film.
I believe it's a Warlord of Mars reference, BT loves him some classic pulp serial nostalgia.
I want to give some special props to one of my frequent collaborators, Jerome Moore, who joined me on this movie about a month into the design process. He brought a lot of skill and credibility to our little department, and helped me with the huge task of designing the characters.
On this sheet in particular, he took a really loose conceptual sketch I drew of the Jester, and turned it into the final model for the film. A lot of times he would take my rough, and the notes we got from our directors and apply the notes, which sometimes required a completely new drawing, creating the final model without losing the look or the vitality of the design I had created. He is one of the few designers I know who can blend into another persons drawing style, and disappear almost completely, while executing complex design challenges. He is a ninja chameleon.

The Jester is a fun idea, although I remember something that I loved, from "Batman : the Brave and the Bold" : after his accident while fighting Owlman, after falling into a chemical bath, instead of becoming the Joker, he kept the costume of the Red Hood and became a good guy. That was a pretty cool idea, and the original Red Hood looks pretty cool.

While I like the design, I laughed at the Jedd Jarkus inside joke before even reading about it. Nice.

J'edd J'arkus reminds me of one(or many, many more) of the characters in the movie John Carter..........
