JL Crisis Designs: lineup by philbourassa JL Crisis Designs: lineup by philbourassa
Here is the size comparison model sheet for The Justice League, in Crisis on Two Earths. Designing these specific characters under Bruce Timm's critical eye was extremely challenging to say the least. If anyone knows how to bring these icons to life in animation, it's him, so when I finally got his blessing with these models I was relieved. I also took care to be as respectful as possible to the rich tradition and history of these characters, and to the legacy of the wonderful artists and writers who have made it possible for us to tell their stories, I did not want to take that responsibility lightly. This stuff is obviously not perfect, but I feel further blessed that EVERYONE involved on this project brought their best efforts to bear, and that the final result is a truly enjoyable movie.
Once again, I would not have been able to pull this job off without the support of my talented crew, and in this case, the beautiful ink cleanup of Dusty Abell.
Design by, me!

I have been a fan of JL since the original comic appeared back in the '60s.  Your depiction of the characters is excellent.

The Wonder Woman design is more or less the same as the Young Justice version as far as animation goes right?

I love all the work done in Crisis on Two Earths, Young Justice, and Justice League: Doom. I just hated one thing though. I always wanted Batman's cape longer because I've seen comics draw a longer cape and the animated series, The Batman, gave Batman a longer cape. Anyways, that's my one thing that bothers me. Besides that, I think your work is frickin' awesome.

I've been watching Young Justice and I absolutely love your art style. One thing I have to say is that I like this design for Batman compared the one that made it into the show. I understand that the other YJ design really details the tactical armor that Batman is supposed to be wearing, which is one area that I appreciate over this design. Other than that though, this design just feels more...I dunno...Batman-y? The darker colors, the fact that he seems a bit shorter here, maybe?

The YJ design overall rubs me, for a reason that I can't quite put my finger on, as just some guy (not Bruce Wayne) dressed up as the Bat. But what do I know? I'm just an anonymous internet commentator. Anyway, keep up the good work! :)

Hey Phillybee. Great stuff as always. I don't know if it's the art nerd in me or not, but Superman's symbol reminds me of how it was rendered in the old 60's Whitman coloring books. No black holding line and that very distinctive shape. Is that a coincidence, a homage or am I just too nerdy?

I really like the height differences between the characters, and how different the faces are on each of the males. So many artists draw superheroes as just this "heroic-looking" guy, and then slap some different costumes on them and try to convince us that Clark Kent isn't Bruce Wayne, even if the only differentiating detail is the spit curl and glasses. Great job, man.

Ohhhh myyyy! I just saw Crisis on Two Earths movie a few days ago and coincidentally came across your page on Deviantart! Right now I feel like I've bumped into a celebrity (I am resisting the urge to squeal like an annoying fangirl)!
My first reaction to this movie was that I really liked the art and drawing style, specifically the body structure. It's unlike the Superman/Batman: Apocalypse movie where the muscles on the characters...was distracting. I also love how you drew Wonder Woman's physique! Its feminine, yet it shows her strength!
I must thank you for making the designs so wonderful, it made watching the movie quiet enjoyable!
