The Demon Musashi by philbourassa The Demon Musashi by philbourassa
Did Musashi really kill Kojiro with a wooden sword he carved out of an oar?
Yeah, he did.
Did he also have glowing red eyes, like a demon?
I like to think so.

Despite what an amazing martial artist he was, i've come to understand i was a little... idk crazy. He was apparently tall for most people in Japan at the time, and had a distaste for bathing (until he started getting reckognized by major houses anyway.) i seem to remember him killing someone with a piece of firewood as well.

I thought it was Kojiro that was referred to as Demon. Huh. Learn somethin' new every day.

Anyway, great work. I like the subtle touch with the paint lines on the face. It helps to sort of simulate the same effect as wrinkles, showing that he's older, but without making him look decrepit or worn down.

I seem to recall one of Miyamoto Musashi's defining characteristics was his duel-wielding swords, though I keep forgetting about when he developed that style. Was it when he was in his thirties, or forties?

As a side note, could you do a few Shinsengumi pics, if you have the time? Maybe it's the old Rurouni Kenshin fan in me, but I always liked Okita and Saito in particular.

Musashi has got to be one of my favorite of the historically honored Samurai, and you captured him brilliantly. I to like to believe he had glowing red eyes, haha!

Wow you made him look like a demon or evil man. I havnt really seen to many dipictions of him like this. Hes usually a hero. He was evil in Samurai Reincarnation i guess.

Sweet posture! I love that Musashi move from the sword of death to the sword of life, but still whacked a dude with an oar!

Dude, I checked out the DVD review for Samurai Resurrection on Amazon and I was amazed at how many bad reviews it got. I mean BAD. But some people just don't good taste if it kicked them in the face, y'know? Still I'll check it out soon. Have you seen Kunoichi: Lady Ninja? There's also a really cool movie you should check out called Red Shadow (Akakage) if you haven't done so already.:peace::teleport:

From what I remember, he didn't bathe often, so he could not be found unarmed.
No wonder people ran away from him.

I lke the idea that you didnt stick to the traditional "IDEA" of Musashi, or at least the way that i have seen him mostly depicted, and i also love the story of the boat oar. SLICKNESS YO!

Yeah, I was goin' for that possessed demonic swordsman vibe.
There's a movie, Samurai Resurrection (a remake of Samurai Reincarnation starring Sonny Chiba;)), in which Musashi is depicted in this way.
Anyways, I love the story and it's a major source of inspiration for my take on these characters.

Dope, i think you captured the possessed look pretty nice...are these for anything special? If so, just respond with all periods...but that'll give it away...if this is for something special, just wink to yourself, lol.
