CYBORG JL WAR: stage 1 by philbourassa CYBORG JL WAR: stage 1 by philbourassa
Vic Stone goes through a pretty rough evolution in JL: War! This is one of his first stages following the accident that transforms his body into a living machine.

I keep wondering how, anatomically, his body fits into that huge machine when his head is that small. But it's a cartoon. And I don't know the story, so maybe he's just a head. Yeah. I don't know.

Nice design, though. It's obviously a machine but it has kind of an organic crystal feel to it with the glowing bits.

Just saw the movie and I thought it was ok.  Not to be a douche.  Your character designs were excellent, better then Jim Lee's for the comic.  But I had issue with there being no Aquaman.  Sure he's the least favorite and Shazam had that awesome short but i would have loved to see the Megaladon's jumping out of the water and tearing apart the minions, lol.  My other issues are with the animation.  It didn't look as good to me as other DC animated movies such as Justice league: Doom or the Shorts.  And Cyborgs design was the coolest part of the movie.  Keep up the great work.  Question though:  Why did you guys go with this design?

Who came up with the idea of Cy's mech parts being the result of nanotech mutation rather than surgical cyber implants? While I'm not a New 52 fan I try to keep an open mind about changes that actually work for a character rather than just make me sad (like the loss of the Titans history). I'm still cool with Cy's original origin & the method Dr. Silas Stone used to save his life (adding the mech parts by hand via surgery), but I can see how using highly advanced experimental nanites to rebuild his body would be more expedient given the serious extent of his injuries.

Are the nanites still active in his body or did they condense to form his bionic parts & armor? I only ask because I always liked how Cy had to repair, maintain, & upgrade his mechanical parts, shows off his tech skills & drives home the burden of being part machine, as opposed to nanites regenerating his components for him.

Not to anyone who has read the comics or knows anything about the character. Thats  like saying a drawing of Peter Parker getting bit by a spider is a spoiler. SPOILER ALERT: Bruce Wayne's Parents were murdered! Nope. Vic Stones origin always has him being accidentally injured during a scientific experiment and his father's technology always saves him and turns him into Cyborg. Always.

I meant the giant stuff PB, I don't remember that. Though I haven't been keeping up with the new origins.

Obviously this is just a slightly different visual take on a very familiar origin story/archetype. In my opinion, it is thematically so consistent with the history of the character and his origin that it seems like a no brainer. In fact, it's such an obvious place to go in the context of the character's story, especially within the new 52, that I'm surprised he wasn't drawn this way in the comic. One look at it and you can be like "oh yeah, Cyborg is kind of like A Frankenstein's monster sort of character, that makes sense." Because that's exactly the archetype that he is based on. He was created by a "mad" scientist who is a father, or father figure, in a lab. An abomination of science.

Also, it was in the trailer for cryin' out loud, so it was already officially revealed months ago. lol.

Also, why havent you drawn any Green Arrow? Can we hope for a Green Arrow animated film any time soon? Supermax sounded like a really awesome idea too.

Before seeing him in JL:War, I was sure his mecanical body was made by Lex Luthor. I'd say this version of his story felt... meh... I don't know... I think it was just weird.
(in France, comics aren't such a big thing as they are in the US, so I'm oblivious to a lot of that stuff, sorry ^^ )

As fars as the infected glowing parts? Jay wanted to tie the colors of Cyborg's infection into the blood of the Parademons which was glowing green, so it was switched from this pink color to a bluish green.

Really love this design. I thought it was great how here Cyborg made a slow transition into his final look by going through this golem like metamorphosis.
